Tide Rising, Tide Falling
This work presents an abstract interpretation of the tidal cycle, with one panel representing the fullness and depth of the incoming tide, the other the quiet recession of water. The work began with a texture reminiscent of water marks left on sand, applied to a plate and then selectively wiped away using a variety of tools to shape the composition. Expressive forms and nuanced variations of tone evoke the movement, energy, and transience of water without recourse to literal depiction. The composition invites a meditative engagement with natural rhythms, allowing the eye to follow shifting patterns over the surface of the panels.
The panels are intended to be float-mounted in a box frame with one panel above the other, separated by a slight gap.
