Dream landscapes
A series of mixed-media works inspired by Scotland’s wild landscapes, expressed through an abstract visual language. Each piece is built by layering thin, translucent handmade papers combined with fine line drawing over a monoprinted background. The natural textures and subtle transparency of the papers, together with the soft, hazy patterns of the monoprint, create a misty, dreamlike atmosphere.
Year: 2025
Medium: Khadi Mitsumata Nepalese Washi 30gsm and Japanese Bib Tengujo 12gsm papers, pigment fine liner, relief printing ink, on Fabriano unica paper base.
“Pools of Dee” draws inspiration from the small lochans that sit high in the Lairig Ghru pass, regarded as one of the sources of the River Dee. The piece depicts three softly rounded pools nestled among rocks and drifting mist, arranged one above the other to suggest a gradual ascent toward the pass’s highest point. Layered translucent papers, fine linear details, and subtle monoprint textures work together to evoke the quiet, elevated atmosphere of this remote landscape.

“Moonlit Bay” captures a narrow band of moonlit water framed by a dark shoreline. Above it, rising mist becomes the central focus, drifting upward and merging with the night sky to create a luminous, atmospheric scene.
205 x 373mm
“Frozen Loch” portrays a still, ice-covered body of water faintly reflecting the snow-lined shore and distant mountains. Behind it, the soft, textured monoprint background evokes a star-filled night sky, enhancing the quiet, crystalline atmosphere of the scene.

“Through the Faultline”
This piece depicts a deep gorge seen from below, where a sharp, bright fissure of light opens in the distance. The illumination tapers outward in a wedge-shaped gradient from white to deep grey, emphasizing the height and narrowing perspective of the rock walls and the sense of looking upward from shadow into light.
