Special Trees project began with small prints of trees, made through experiments in both intaglio and relief printing using Tetra Pak plates. The trees I focused on were personally significant—like the oak we pass on one of our favourite walks along the River North Esk, or the large oak growing just across the road from my house.
The process involved exploring visual and material associations between trees, wood, and wood grain. I was interested in the contrast between the scale of the trees themselves and the intimacy of the small printed format, as well as in the use of printed wood grain textures. The final composition offers partial glimpses of trees—resembling the act of looking through a window—framing them in a way that invites focused attention and underscores their perceived importance.
