Relief ink on 300gsm Hahnemühle paper

447 x 690mm image, 500 x 720 mm paper

A subtractive layered monoprint in greyscale, this work explores the dramatic north face of Ben Nevis. Ink is removed and reworked through a combination of palette knife marks, brushstrokes, and drawn textures, building a surface that is both abrasive and controlled. Rough, physical gestures contrast with even grey solid fill background, emphasising the material process of making.
Towering cliffs are defined through strong dark tones, with deep, dark passages cutting between a lighter foreground and sky. The ridgeline is caught in a subtle background luminosity, suggesting shifting light across the landscape. The composition conveys a sense of scale, exposure, and the austere, elemental character of this environment.
